Sea turtles have been roaming earth since dinosaur times. They have been around for more than a hundred million years, but people still don’t know them fully.

These magnificent creatures are nature’s biggest kept secret.
Scientists could never fully study sea turtles because they spend most of their lives under water. They only come up to the surface for a few minutes for air then poof! They disappear back in the waters.
They are excellent underwater breathers who can stay submerged for up to 5 hours straight!
They do this by slowing down their heart rate to allow them to conserve oxygen. A sleeping turtle however can stay underwater for up to 7 hours. Unbelievable!
Sea turtles cannot retract its arms and legs back into it’s shell. The shell is part of a turtle’s spine, made of tough skin and bones. Let’s just say, the shell is not hollow so it can’t duck into it.

Well, sea turtles have excellent memories.
These gentle giants lay eggs on average of about 2 to 8 times in their life time. They go back to the spot where they were born each time to lay their eggs.
Talk about emotional attachment!
You can also never ever see a male sea turtle on land. Male sea turtles never come ashore. They spend their entire lives in the ocean. Only females come onto land to lay eggs. Once they are done, they too will go back to the water never returning to see their eggs again.
Fun isn’t it?! To know that something so normal has so many secrets up its sleeve!
Oh and one more fascinating thing about sea turtles. The hatchlings when inside the egg, make sounds. And no one knows why they vocalise from inside the egg!
